Kia unveils it Sports Sedan Concept – 2014 GT4 Stinger

Touted the brand’s ‘most aggressive concept car ever’, Kia unveiled the Kia GT$ Stinger Concept at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. The car is said to be the wild child of the California design team of Kia. Tom Kearns, chief designer, Kia Design Center America said, ‘Driving enjoyment was the number one priority in designing the GT4 Stinger. It’s an authentic 2+2 sports car that can turn heads as a daily driver while also being right at home on the track. It’s about purity, simplicity and timelessness. The GT4 Stinger is a throwback to days when driving a car was a viscereal experience that wasn’t muted by electronic gimmickry.’

If compared to the Kia Cee’d, the Stinger is about the same length at 4310mm but is decently lower and wider. It also has a shorter wheelbase. Performance is boosted by a tuned version of Kia’s 2.0 litre direct injection petrol engine. Power output is 311 bhp and transmission is a six speed manual transmission engaging the rear wheels which are 20 inch wheel rims wrapped by 275/35R-20 Pirelli P-Zero tires.

In aesthetics, Kia has adopted its ‘tiger nose grille’ with a few modifications. It has a surround that glows white flanked by vertical LED headlamps. The clamshell bonnet has chrome accents and bulges at the sides for the wheels. In the front, black front pillars frame the screen and incorporate transparent sections. This has been done with the aim of clearer visibility. At the rear, the LED rear lights glow up from behind a black panel stretching throughout the width of the car. Coming to interiors, it has been done keeping simplicity and minimalism in mind. The floor is covered with rubber mats, there is sparse instrumentation and there is no stereo system and the seats are leather moulded bucket seats.
